‘Libertine’ - Max Brazier-Jones - 2026

An original painting from emerging artist Max Brazier-Jones.

Oil, aerosol & acrylic on artisan paper set to board.

Bespoke, hand-painted bevelled frame.

Dimensions: 94cm x 70cm including frame.

All images have been captured in natural daylight in our studio. The beautiful nature of Max’s paints lead his paintings to take on warmth from sunlight and cooler tones in shade. The way natural light plays on his paintings give them a really magical quality.

The characters that Max creates are largely fictitious.

Born in London and based in Dorset, UK, Max Brazier-Jones works across figurative and abstract painting, creating pieces that sit between the surreal and the familiar.

Coming from a background in design, his practice is informed by a sensitivity to form, composition, and visual rhythm. Rather than pursuing realism, he distorts and reshapes features, allowing atmosphere and emotion to take precedence over likeness. Faces and figures emerge as unstable, shifting forms, existing somewhere between recognition and ambiguity.

His surfaces are built through layered applications of oil, acrylic, and aerosol, resulting in subtle variations in sheen and texture that shift depending on light, space, and perspective. This material process plays an active role in the work, with each layer partially obscuring or revealing what came before.

The paintings explore themes of vulnerability, memory, and the tension between exposure and concealment. Through this, he captures fleeting psychological states that feel both intimate and unresolved, inviting the viewer to slow down and form their own interpretations within these unfamiliar yet suggestive forms.
