Gary Edwards

EAST SUSSEX, ENGLAND

Gary studied ceramics at Central School of Art and Design in the mid-1970s; where the teaching staff included Gordon Baldwin, Dan Arbeid and Gillian Lowndes.

After graduating he worked as a pottery technician and taught in adult education while continuing to make and exhibit his own work. After several years and two successful posts as artist in residence at Carmel College, Wallingford and Battersea Arts Centre he stopped making pots in 1982.

Fast forward nearly 35 years and after a week of ceramics summer school at Hastings College Gary found a renewed connection with clay. His recent work is almost exclusively hand-built with an emphasis on exposed mark-making, bold forms and strong colours.
