Marjorie Bloch
BELFAST, NORTHERN IRELAND

Marjorie was born in Dublin, where she developed an early love of art and creativity. She later went on to study Fine Art in Belfast before completing a post grad in Philosophy at Queens University.
Growing up in Ireland fostered a deep connection to the wild landscape, its coasts and mountains experienced in all weathers. This enduring attachment to place eventually inspired her relocation from Belfast to the coastal village of Killough in County Down, where the immediacy of the sea and the shifting elements continue to shape her work.

Alongside this relationship with the natural environment, a long-standing interest in Tibetan Buddhism informs the contemplative nature of Marjorie’s practice. Together, these influences form the foundation from which she draws inspiration for both her paintings and ceramics.

In recent years, the idea that “less is more” has become increasingly central to her approach, guiding her choices of palette, composition, and form. Her works on paper, often created using oil and wax, allow space for the unexpected to emerge during the process, an element she continues to find both challenging and rewarding.

For Marjorie, each painting represents a return to the beginning: a new exploration approached with equal parts uncertainty and adventure.
