Max Brazier-Jones
DORSET, ENGLAND

Born in London and based Dorset UK, Max Brazier-Jones works across figurative and abstract painting, creating pieces that sit between the surreal and the familiar.
Coming from a background in design, his practice is informed by a sensitivity to form, composition and visual rhythm. Rather than pursuing realism, he distorts and reshapes features, allowing atmosphere and emotion to take precedence over likeness. Faces and figures emerge as unstable, shifting forms, existing somewhere between recognition and ambiguity.
His surfaces are built through layered applications of oil, acrylic and aerosol, resulting in subtle variations in sheen and texture that shift depending on light, space and perspective. This material process plays an active role in the work, with each layer partially obscuring or revealing what came before.
The paintings explore themes of vulnerability, memory and the tension between exposure and concealment. Through this, he captures fleeting psychological states that feel both intimate and unresolved, inviting the viewer to slow down and form their own interpretations within these unfamiliar yet suggestive forms.
