‘Grey Clouds over Hills’ - Andrew Viner - 2026

An original painting by artist Andrew Viner.

Oil on Linen.

Bespoke, hand-stained, wooden shadow frame.

Dimensions: 44.5cm x 33.5cm including frame.

Each work is painted in oil on clear-primed linen, leaving the natural surface visible to lend its own warmth, texture and character. The approach allows little room for correction, as any reworking would destroy the very quality Viner seeks to preserve, so he plans each composition carefully before making the first mark. Using large brushes and thin layers of paint, he lets the pigment interact with the linen to create translucent passages that suggest atmosphere, distance, light and shadow. Resisting the urge to keep adding and refining, he sets each painting aside once it has said what it needs to. The result is an exploration of attention: of quiet, sometimes extraordinary moments within an ordinary landscape, and of how colour, form and light might hold onto the feeling of having witnessed them.

Photographed in natural light in the studio with every care taken to capture true colour. As with many works on linen canvas, variations in light, summer to winter, morning to afternoon, daylight to bulb will bring out different hues and details in Andrew's paintings.
