A 20th Century North Indian Sarangi - mounted on a wooden plinth as a decorative contemporary sculpture. The apex of the instrument is decorated with two naively carved standing figures.
The sarangi is a bowed, short-necked string instrument from South Asia (India, Nepal, Pakistan) renowned for its ability to mimic the human voice. It would have originally featured gut and metal strings, creating a haunting, expressive sound used in Hindustani classical, folk, and devotional music. The name means "hundred colours".
