Vintage 1980's plaster lamp with classical style swagged form. Hand-painted in the studio by Sandhills Studios.

Sandhills Studios is a creative collaboration between Poppy Ellis and Marc Taylor.

From their studio on the south coast of Kent, the husband and wife team step beyond their usual portraiture and still life, venturing into ceramics and abstract painting, drawing inspiration from the wild coastline and quiet hinterland of Romney Marsh.

Both artists share the same canvas, working in layers rather than in isolation. Marc might begin with the background, building texture through mark and material, before Poppy responds with colour and form, or the process starts the other way round, each taking their turn to answer what the other has left behind. The canvas passes back and forth between them, gathering something neither could have reached alone, one hand’s gesture becoming the starting point for the next. It’s a conversation carried out in paint and surface rather than words, each layer a reply to the one before it.
