‘Fruit Bowl with Corn’ - Rebecca King - 2023

Since graduating from Brighton University with a degree in Fine Art,

Rebecca has been a practicing artist in both London and Bristol, before returning to her native Cornwall, where she splits her time between her studio and her role as an art lecturer.

Rebecca's work primarily focuses on still life and figuration in a semi abstract, impressionistic style. The work is inspired by the loose brushwork of impressionism and the bold abstraction of the post war St Ives school artist, as well as Rebecca’s immediate influences, taken from everyday household objects and the nature found within the Cornish landscape.

Rebecca undertakes an intuitive approach to painting, one that lets the painting lead her. Never quite knowing where it will end up, but reading, reacting and evolving with the changes that are happening within the process, as it happens.

​

This immediacy is also reflected in the range of materials she uses, from oil paints and acrylics to raw pigments, which help create the energetic gestural marks, bold brush strokes and saturated colours that characterise Rebecca’s work.
